It’s hard to enjoy your earned freedom when your grown-up kids are still latched on expecting something from you when you die.

To dramatise the emotional burden many older Australians feel around inheritance, we’ll use a darkly comic visual metaphor: a fully grown adult still tethered to their mother by an umbilical cord.

It’s a confronting image that captures a deeper truth that some adult children are quite literally holding their parents back from the freedom they’ve earned to enjoy their own money.
